In the past this has included culture and communication for adult learners who are already competent speakers of English, but want to improve their confidence in using the language. | | |
City College Brighton and Hove City College Brighton and Hove runs a variety of courses for adult learners, including people for whom English isn’t their first language.
Most of these courses are accredited. Courses include "Everyday Situations", "Family, Home and Friends" and "Study Skills". We also offer I.T. courses and progression to other college courses.

Sussex Careers Ltd Sussex Careers Ltd is an independent company which provides impartial careers information, advice and guidance to people of all ages. Free individual guidance is available to all and a range of personal development courses is offered free of charge to those in receipt of means-tested benefits (£20 per course to others). We can arrange help with interpreting and some of our information can be translated into the following languages on request: Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, Cantonese, Farsi, Gujerati, Mandarin, Portugese and Urdu. Tomorrow's People Trust A specialist charitable trust whose main objective is to help people and communities overcome unemployment by acting as an expert intermediary between Government, business and individuals. Free courses are also available for refugees and asylum seekers. I.T. accreditation may be offered as part of the courses. |  | |
Varndean College Courses at beginners to elementary level are run at the Brighthelm Centre and beginners and pre-elementary classes at St. Mary Magdalen Community Centre. These are primarily for refugees and asylum-seekers although other students may be able to join - contact Angela Pamely to check availability. Students can join the courses at Brighthelm at any time of the year if there are places, but must first arrange an assessment interview with Angela Pamely. Students with a higher standard of English can be considered for the Cambridge Certificate courses held at Varndean College. |  | |
